Beauty Goes Far Deeper

Hello again! We have a super stunning project to share with you next, created for a gorgeous feature in Creative Stamping magazine last month. Nicky Gilburt is here to give you all the details of how she created her beautiful card…

I’d like to share a special project that I did for Visible Image using their beautiful Dare to Swim stamps. It was a very special undertaking as part of the design team, to produce three pieces for Creative Stamping Magazine to show the variety of what could be achieved with one design.

My background colours were achieved through mixing and adding water to Distress Crayons, and the design started off life like this:

Hard to believe – but the way that you can get the crayons to work for you with a bit of water – they are amazing!

I focused on depth, and researched what water looked like from beneath the surface. With strokes of white pen to show the rays of light shining through the water I think I achieved this

Once my background was very dry and I had added some shoals of fish and blue seaweed, I rubbed it with an anti-static bag and stamped and embossed the jellyfish in white. I used the same white marker pen and a paintbrush to soften the ink strokes to add a touch of translucency to the jellyfish before sealing them with glossy accents and a tiny sprinkle of glitter

Mark’s cleverly designed bubbles and shoals of fish added that final bit of depth to the image, and I split the text of the sentiment into two parts, changing from black to white too, to show, hopefully, how dark it is down there!

I mounted my image on a matching background, created using the same principle of blending the crayons and adding some stamped images. Edge to edge water

Full details of this card and the two other creations by our amazing Pauline and Teresa are in Creative Stamping magazine, Issue 43, if you were lucky enough to get a copy!

This amazing set of stamps, unrivaled both in detail and size, is called Dare to Swim:

Underwater Beauty

Hello! We have a day packed full of gorgeous inspiration here on the blog today!

We have so many stunning samples to share with you leading up to Friday’s shows on Create and Craft TV.

Elina Strömberg is up first today…

Hi and Happy Wednesday,
Today I wanted to show you a tag project I made with Visible Image ‘Dare To Swim’ stamp set and Distress Inks. The base of my project was a white size 8 tag that had a nice bit glossy finish. Just perfect for some creative play with stamping and inking!

I started the project by stamping and heat embossing the jellyfish on the tag. Then I inked the entire tag with a few blue and green Distress inks and stamped the seagrass and fish school images with StazOn on top.

I wanted to highlight the beautiful jellyfish and the air bubbles by removing the ink from those. For that I used bleach: I took a Fantastix colouring/painting tool (a small brush would have done, too), dipped the top of it into bleach, and painted over the areas I wanted to remove the ink from. After waiting a few seconds I saw the magic happening: the bleached spots started turning white! When working with bleach you need to choose a stamping ink that tolerates the strong liquid. The technique works well with heat embossed images, and also StazOn allows you to paint over it without dissolving the stamped image. If you have not yet tried this technique I suggest you give it a try; I’m sure you’ll love it!

I removed the ink also from the seagrass, and re-colored the leaves with green ProMarkers. Also the jellyfish got back some colour and shadowing from my markers, as well as the tiny fish on top of the tag.

Before gluing down the stamped quote words I misted the entire tag gently with plain water. Loved the tiny bubble patterns it created!

Hope you like my tag!

Dare To Swim

Hi there, we still have a few more stunning projects to share with you today here on the blog, as we catch up with everything our incredible team have been creating with our NEW stamps!

Over to Elina Strömberg…

Hi!

Today I’m sharing with you a card I made using the new ‘Dare To Swim’ stamp set by Visible Image:

Aren’t those stamps gorgeous!

I stamped the images on light blue cardstock, and coloured them with a few blue and green Promarker colours.
The darker blue shades I inked with Distress inks.

For the white highlights I used a gel pen, and the white quote I stamped and heat-embossed on a piece of white vellum.
Attaching vellum especially on a dark background is sometimes tricky as the glue dots may show through.

The easiest solution is to fold the ends of the vellum strip on the back of the card and not to use glue on the card front at all.

The dark blue plants are die-cut using a Sizzis/Tim Holtz die from some time back.
Before gluing them on the card front I added some lighter colours on the leaves (with a white gel pen and a light blue pastel pen). Done!

Swim Deeper

Hello! We are back with more gorgeous inspiration as promised.. show much to share with you today!

Over to Dot Leathbridge…

Dare To Swim is one of the new stamp releases from Visible Image.

Blue Bottles are the jellyfish in our region that we often see washed up on the beach… painful too if you go swimming when they are about! They are only tiny, but they pack a fair punch.

This set has everything! From jellyfish, to weed, to fish, to bubbles – along with a sentiment.

For this card my distress crayons were used for the background.

It gives a lovely muted look and reminds me of what it looks like underwater.
The drips are done with the crayons too – so versatile!
