Halloween Tag – Visible Image

Hello! Thanks for coming to visit us here on the Visible Image blog today. We have a fantastic tag from Elina Strömberg to share with you today…

Hi

Only a week to Halloween! Wow!

Even if Halloween is not such a big thing in Finland I can feel the Halloween excitement rising as my kids are making plans for their Halloween parties. Their joy and eagerness is so contagious.

I haven’t made too many Halloween themed paper crafting projects in the past, but the recent stamp set, ‘Mr Bone Jangles‘ by Visible Image got me inspired. Funny how those skulls and skeletons are at the same time creepy and cute! I used the large skull for a Halloween themed tag:

The size 8 tag base is die-cut twice; once from orange cardstock and once from black texture paper. Before attaching the tags I tore the paper on top and bottom edges, revealing a bit of the orange background after the tags were glued together. While waiting for the glue to dry I dry brushed a hint of white gesso on the black background. A very thin layer of white gesso is always an easy way to highlight the main items.

I stamped the skull on white cardstock and coloured it with grey and yellow markers. After colouring I removed the eye and nose areas with a crafting knife and fuzzy cut the skull out. For creating more dimenstion on the card I pressed the edges of the skull with a stylus, and attached the image on a piece of black cardstock with 3D foam pads.

The little spiders I had bought from a local ‘Tiger’ store that sells fun decoration items for low prices. After gluing them on the tag I brushed some white gesso on them, too.

The tag turned out just the way I wanted. Creepy spooky, but fun!

Visible Image – Don’t Exist… LIVE!

Hi there! We have more Halloween themed inspiration for you here on the blog today. Over to Teresa Morgan with a brilliant project…

With Halloween fast approaching, today’s project has a spooky feel to it.

The Z box fold card is a popular shape right now, so here is my version:

You will need two pieces of card (I used black) for the basis of this card, and some patterned or printed card to decorate the panels.

Cut one piece of black card 4.25in x 5.5in. This will be the back of your card blank.

Cut the second piece of black card 9.75in x 4in. This will be the piece you fold.

Z box fold card template

  1. Measure 3in in from left hand edge and 1in up from bottom and make a mark.
  2. Measure 3.75in from right hand edge and 1in up from bottom and make a mark.
  3. Draw a line between the two marks and cut along it.
  4. Score from the left end of the cut up to the top edge of the card.
  5. Score from the right end of the cut down to the bottom edge of the card.
  6. Measure 4.5in from left hand edge of card and score from top to bottom.

I used some gelli prints to decorate my card blank, you could use some designer papers or ink or stamp your own background designs.

The right hand panel of the folded card is glued to the other piece of black card to complete the card blank.

I stamped the large skull from the Mr Bone Jangles set onto my front panel, and the large moth from the Glimmer of Light set onto the back panel. I used a white gel pen to add some detail to the moth.

I added some smaller skulls to the back panel, stamping onto a scrap of paper before stamping onto my printed background. This gives a soft ghost stamped effect.

I stamped six small moths onto some printed card and fussy cut them. I added some white highlights with a gel pen before shaping the wings with my fingers. I added one moth to the large skull, and attached the others to some short lengths of florists’ wire. These were attached inside the ‘box’ with tape.

Finally I stamped the words from the Tomorrow Doesn’t Exist Set and ‘adapted’ them to my needs before attaching with 3d foam!!
